Albert Martin “Mart” Gordon was born in Forest City, Missouri on August 19, 1936. He was one of four children of H. Russell and Helen A. (Bursha) Gordon.
Mart graduated from Forest City High School and then entered the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he became an amateur boxer, and earned the nickname “Tunney,” in honor of the famous professional boxer Gene Tunney.
He married Bonnie Gifford in February of 1963. They became parents of two children.
Mart drove trucks all of his work life, retiring from Yellow Freight. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for 32 years.
After retirement he continued to drive for 4B Farms. Mart also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his dogs.
He was a member of the Forest City United Methodist Church, and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Moila Temple, Scottish Rite, Charity Lodge, and Legion of Honor. He was also a member of the Wednesday Night Choir Boys.
Mart passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 83.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Rogerson; and brother, Russell C. Gordon.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bonnie, of their home; son, Russell “Russ” (Donna) Gordon, Lee’s Summit, Missouri; daughter, Pam Gordon, Forest City; sister, Shirley Gordon, Forest City; grandchildren, Lauren and Luke Gordon; and nieces and nephews.
