Addie Amanda Burtnett

Addie A. Burtnett, 102, of St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Oregon, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020 at an Oregon, Missouri care center.

She was born Jan. 20, 1918 in Harvard, Illinois to Park H. and Kate (Beardsley) Wood. Addie graduated high school in Kit Carson, Colorado in 1936.

Addie was a member of the Oregon Christian Church, and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Chapter #3411 in Kit Carson.

She made paper flowers and sold them, then she started a cake business. She made a cake for President Roosevelt and sent it to him. She received a letter from F.D.R. thanking her for the cake. She made hundreds of cakes for special occasions, birthdays, and weddings. She worked at the Sisters Hospital in the salad and pastry department, and eventually retired from Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, William; three brothers and their spouses, Charles (Anna Marie) Wood, Park (Florence) Wood, and Frank Wood; and her sister and brother-in-law, Louise (Gene) Bergman.

She is survived by her sons, Roy (Karen) Burtnett of Oregon, Missouri and Jerry (Nora) Burtnett of Faucett, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, 7:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Missouri, with family greeting friends one hour prior to services. Private family interment: Maple Grove Cemetery.
