Alan Phelps

L. Alan Phelps was born on January 10, 1936, the only child of Buck and Geneva (Buthe) Phelps.

He graduated from Central High School in Warrensburg , Missouri in 1954. In 1961 he married Sandra Hetherington, and they became parents of one child. They later divorced.

Alan worked for the United States Postal Service, and had served as postmaster in Rock Port. He also served in the Air National Guard.

In 1997 he married Mary M. Wheeler, and she survives of their Fairfax , Missouri home.

Alan passed away on December 6, 2013 at a Rock Port nursing home at the age of 77.

Alan was preceded by his parents. In addition to his wife, Mary, survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marcella (Gary) McCoy of Odessa, Missouri; grandchildren, Cassandra and Andrew McCoy, both of Odessa; stepson, Richard Wheeler of Tecumseh, Nebraska; stepdaughters, Sally Pinkston of Hutchinson, Kansas and Margaret Reynolds of Carter Lake, Iowa; numerous step grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Grace Church in Rock Port , and on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Cornith Baptist Church , north of Clinton , Missouri . Inurnment will be held at Carrsville Cemetery . Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
