Alta Ruth Greene died Aug. 21, 2017. She was born May 13, 1918, in Oregon, Mo., the youngest child of Alta and Phillip Markt.
Ruth graduated from Oregon High School in 1936. She worked at various jobs and served as the first librarian of Oregon Public Library, which was started by the A.A.U.W. Society of Oregon.
Ruth and Robert B. Greene were married Feb. 1, 1941, and following Robert's service in the U.S. Navy, they moved to Longmont, Colo., where Robert worked at the Longmont newspaper. They lived in Colorado for 31 years.
After Robert's retirement from the newspaper work, they moved to Arizona and spent winters in Mesa and summers in Overgaard.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband in 1997; her parents in 1969; a half-sister; two brothers; and two sisters: Berniece Meyer, who was 100 years old, and Addah Lee Coffman, who was 98 years old.
She is survived by her son, Jon Greene; two grandsons, Shawn and Ian; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
