Alvin D. Meyer was born in Oregon, Missouri on July 5, 1942, one of 10 children of William Elmer and Opal Irene (Kuhn) Meyer.

Alvin grew up in Oregon, graduating from Oregon High School. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University.

On June 30, 1966 Alvin married Rosalie “Rosie” Harris in Miami, Oklahoma. Alvin and Rosie made their home in Oregon, where they raised two daughters.

Alvin worked as a banker at the former Citizens Bank of Oregon.

While living in Oregon Alvin was a board member of the Cannon Hollow Drainage District, the South Holt Fire Protection District, and the South Holt School Board, and was a member of Oregon Kiwanis.

From 1963 to 1969 Alvin served with the Missouri Air National guard at Rosecrans Air Base in St. Joseph, Missouri.

In 1987 Alvin and Rosie moved to Bolivar, Missouri where he worked at the former Pleasant Hope Bank. While living in Bolivar, Alvin was a member of the Senior Age Area Agency on Aging, the Polk County Health Board, and the Senior Tax Board. Alvin was also a board member of the Bolivar First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

After a short illness, Alvin passed away on November 29, 2025 at the Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 83.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill, Donald Bruce, Ronnie and Robert; sisters, Nancy Buckles and Linda Neiderhouse; brothers-in-law, Merrill Buckles and Gary Richner; and sisters-in-law, Jerry Meyer and Mary Terhune.

Survivors include his wife Rosie, of their Bolivar home; daughters, Alesia (Ryan) Scroggins, Platte City, Missouri, and Marsha (Brad) Foster, Nixa, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Alita Meyer; sisters, Betty Richner and Janet Blazer; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Martha Meyer, Bernadine Meyer, Carolyn Meyer, Gerald Terhune, Leah and Kent Kurtz, French and Kelly Harris, and Diane and Terry Silvey; five grandchildren, Jakob and Alaina Scroggins, Dani Foster (husband Jason McMinn), Eddie (Kelsey) Foster and Izzy Foster; three great grandchildren, Langston, Liam and Remi Foster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alvin loved his Lord, family and country. He never knew a stranger, had a contagious laugh, and lived life to the fullest.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am on December 13, 2025 at the Bolivar First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 20, 2025 at the Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Missouri. The family will greet friends beginning at 1:00. Private family inurnment at Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon, Missouri.

Memorials may be directed to the Maple Grove Cemetery, New Point Christian Church, or Bolivar First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
