Ava R. McCarthy, 84, of Craig, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019 at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Mo.
She was born north of Craig on Sept. 22, 1934 to Fred C. and Lucille A. (Dooley) Hickman. Ava graduated from Craig High School in 1952.
After high school she moved to Topeka, Kansas where she opened her first fabric store. She closed it in 1991, and in 2003 moved back to Craig to take over her mother's store. She operated Fabrics Unique Quilt Shop out of her Craig home. Ava's store was featured in a St. Joseph News-Press article in January, 2015.
Ava was preceded in death by her sister, Joy Root; and cousin, Coleen King. Survivors include her husband, Dennis, of their Craig home; and stepsister, Jennie Luna.
