She graduated from New Point High school, class of 1943. Following graduation, she attended business school in St. Joseph, MO with an emphasis on accounting. In the fall of 1961 she relocated to Higginsville, Missouri where her younger sister Lila’s family lived. She ‘adopted’ her sister’s family as her own, helping with cooking, gardening, housekeeping, and child care. Her longest tenure of employment was for the Coast to Coast Hardware store in Higginsville from 1970 until 1988. In addition, she also worked several years at the TA truck stop in Concordia and later at True Value Hardware in Higginsville.
The church of her childhood was Union Christian Church in rural Oregon. At her move to west central Missouri, she became a member of Cedar Grove Christian Church in Mayview, Missouri, volunteering in the children’s department and with the ladies aid and missionary society. In her later years she attended Richmond Christian Chapel. Barbara was a lifelong lover of children, milk cows, chickens and gardening.
Barbara passed away on July 15, 2021 at her Higginsville home at the age of 95.
