Betty M. Durbin, 87, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2013.
She was born on August 11, 1925 in New Point, Missouri, to Harold and Sylvia (Floyd) Kunkel. She graduated from New Point High School and worked at North American Aviation, Inc., the assembly plant located in Kansas City, Missouri during WWII.
On January 27, 1944, Betty married Harry Durbin, who preceded her in death on June 20, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Ruth Ann Bruntmyer; and sisters, Madge Kee and Thelma Roberts.
Survivors include her son, Lynn Durbin, of St. Joseph, Missouri; former son-in-law, Harold (Karen) Bruntmyer, of Platte City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Travis (Vanessa) Durbin of Fairplay, Colorado, and Kaylyn Durbin of St. Joseph; four great grandchildren, Isaiah, Samuel, Abram, and Anna Rose Durbin; and several nieces and nephews.
She and Harry loved to travel, having visited all fifty states, where they would always dance with the local square dance clubs. Betty was an active participant in their farming operation in New Point, Missouri.
Betty was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church, YMCA Promenades, and other local square dance clubs.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family and a very caring person who loved helping others. Betty was an excellent cook, and will be remembered for her apple pies. Her grandchildren especially loved her homemade noodles. She enjoyed gardening and sharing her harvest with others, and was also an avid seamstress. Betty will always be remembered for her kind heart and ever present smile.
Services were held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Oregon United Methodist Church. Burial was at New Point Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Oregon United Methodist Church.
