Betty Jean Gilland, 85, of Harrisonville, Mo., formerly of Mound City, Mo., passed away June 8, 2018 at KC Hospice House in Kansas City, Mo. with her family by her side.
She was born November 6, 1932. She married Don Medsker, and he preceded her in death in May of 1964. They had three children; Bruce Alton, Michael Dean, Sr, and Donna Jean.

She married Les Gilland in January of 1969. He preceded her in death in January of 2006. She had two stepsons, Max and Fred Gilland.
Betty lived her life in Nodaway and Holt County until she moved to Harrisonville, Mo. in 2006.
Betty worked at Maitland Farmers Bank, Maitland, Mo. and UMB in Mound City, Mo., and retired after 40 years in banking.
Betty enjoyed fishing, reading, dancing, traveling, the mountains, and spending time with loved ones and friends. She was an excellent cook and seamstress.
She belonged to the Secret Society of Sisters, previously known as the Red Hat Ladies. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Graham, Mo. and later the New Testament Christian Church of Mound City, Mo.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents, Roy V. Gaddy and Rachel Melba Rowlett Gaddy; and stepson, Max Gilland.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce Medsker and wife Becky, Forest City, Mo., and Michael, Sr. and wife Marla of Peculiar, Mo.; daughter, Donna Stansbury of Raymore, Mo.; stepson, Fred Gilland and wife Kay, of Mound City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; six step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; her sister, Linda Jensen and brother in law Bill of Independence, MO; a half brother, Rod Gaddy; a stepsister, Connie Shackleford; numerous nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.
Funeral services: Tuesday, June 12, 2018, 3:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Memorials: KC Hospice House, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
