Rock Port

Beverly Mae Kuhns was born on January 7, 1947 in Calico Rock, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Austin B. “A.B.” and Lola M. (Whiteaker) Stoner.

Beverly attended Maitland and Fairfax schools, and graduated from King City High School in 1965. While in high school at Fairfax she loved playing basketball. She always remembered her coach saying, “Beverly and the three freshmen.” She loved the game and her coach.

On September 12, 1969 Beverly married David Charles Kuhns, and they lived in Rock Port. They became parents of three children, Gail, Wendy, and William. Beverly and David later separated.

Beverly worked at a sewing factory in Auburn, Nebraska, at Place’s, The Army Store, and at Walter Brothers. She always enjoyed her co-workers and spoke fondly of them.

She enjoyed going to her children's events while they were in school. Beverly was a Sunday school teacher at the Rock Port Baptist Church for several years. She spent hours and hours sewing, crocheting, and quilting, and was known for being an excellent seamstress. She was also a great cook. Her family especially loved her cheesecake, punch, and mac and cheese. She was also an avid reader and most weeks she would read four or five books.

Beverly moved to Pleasant View nursing home and lived there for four years. She spent her time reading, doing word searches, and working on some small crafts. She was content spending time in her room and could also often be found watching sci-fi or something about zombies.

On the afternoon of May 19, 2022 with her family present, Beverly peacefully passed away at the Fairfax Community Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; nephew, David Stoner; and great nephew, Tyler Dale Wilson.

Survivors include her children, Gail Kuhns of Hamburg, Iowa, Wendy (Marshal) Hays of Rock Port, and William (fianceé Jessica) of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Tayte Smith, Dayton Hays, Clara Hays, and Montana Crum; siblings, Howard (Carol) Stoner of Texas, Earl (Rosita) Stoner of Rock Port, Maggie Dockins of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Jimmy (Betty) Stoner of Rock Port; and numerous nieces and nephews.
