Bobby L. Sipes

Bobby L. Sipes was born in Bolckow, Missouri on Dec. 9, 1938 to Lester Maxwell and Ella Pauline (Plummer) Sipes.
The family moved to Holt County in 1943, and Bob attended Oakland School, Kimsey School, Benton School and Mound City School before joining the U.S. Army. He received his high school diploma on July 30, 1959 while serving in the Army. He served three years.
Bob married Linda Kay Kent on July 29, 1961. They had two children, Susan, born April 29, 1962, and Robbie, born April 22, 1964.
The family lived in Bigelow, Mo. where Bob worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation. He then began attending Northwest Missouri State University and Missouri Western, majoring in Art Education. In 1978 he started working for the Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service, and remained there until his retirement in 2000.
Bob joined the Big Lake Baptist Church in 1968, where he served as Sunday School Director for 35 years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mound City and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was an avid carver of birds of North America, and carved over 600 pieces in his lifetime.
Bob passed away on Jan. 1, 2016 at a Rock Port, Mo. care center. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester “Junior” Sipes; and sisters, Alpha Sipes Cunningham and Betty Sipes Bomar.
Survivors include his wife, Linda, of the home; daughter, Susan Ecker and her husband Terry of Elmo, Missouri; son, Robbie Sipes and his wife Tracy of Big Lake, Missouri; grandchildren, Jared Haer, Ashley Haer, Ryan Sipes, Jordan Sipes, and Kelsie Sipes Boyd; and nieces and nephews.
Services: Sat, Jan. 9, 2016, 2:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Private family interment: I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, Mo. Memorials: Big Lake Baptist Church.
