Bonnie came into this world on Jan. 8, 1942 as Ruby Joe Finney in Blossom, Texas, the daughter of Eugene and Mildred Finney. At the age of nine she was adopted by Floyd and Myrtle Showalter of Fairfax, Mo., and gained a brother along with the new name of Bonnie Jo Showalter. She attended school in both Fairfax and Rock Port.
She fell in love with Douglas L. Allee and they were married on March 8, 1960. During their marriage they lived in various farming communities in Iowa and Northwest Missouri. During this time she located her three birth sisters and their families, and was able to reconnect and spend time together.
Bonnie worked at Vet-A-Mix in Shenandoah, Iowa before becoming a CNA. She then worked at Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa until her retirement.
Even though Doug and Bonnie later divorced they remained close friends until his passing in 2004. She married the final love of her life, Ronald L. “Roy” Light on Dec. 25, 1999, and he has remained by her side ever since.
Preceding her in death was an infant son, Dale Anthony Allee; sister, Mary Lou Baird; grandson, William Robert Hinds, Jr.; parents, Eugene Finney and Mildred Woodcock; adoptive parents, Floyd and Myrtle (Vanderslice) Showalter; ex-husband, Douglas Allee; sister-in-law, Joyce Allee; nephew, Brian LaMaster; step son, Rodney Light; and many, many beloved pets.
Survivors include her husband, Roy Light of Rock Port; son, Wayne (Gayle) Allee of Rock Port; daughter, Jeanette R. Henderson of Hamburg; daughter, Karen E. (Dan) Tietjen of Platte City, Mo.; honorary daughter, Liz (Pat) Garst of Rock Port; brother, Danny Showalter; grandchildren, Zachary Allee (Jay) of Atlanta, GA, Amanda Hinds (Jake) of Farragut, Iowa, Veronica (Jason) Lewis of Rock Port, and Nicole Hinds of Hamburg; 10 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Memorial services: Sat., March 25, 2017, 2:00 pm, First Christian Church, Rock Port. A private ceremony was held on Sun., Jan. 22, 2017. Inurnment: Mount Olive Cemetery, Hamburg, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, the Alzheimers Association, or the Great Plains SPCA.
