Bruce T. Vandeventer

January 26, 1932 — August 25, 2012

Bruce T. "Tinker" Vandeventer was born January 26, 1932 in Mound City, one of six children of Thomas W. "Tad" and Genetta V. "Nettie" (Stoner) Vandeventer. He graduated from Mound City High School in 1950.
On February 17, 1952 he married Iva M. Luna, and they became parents of three children.

In 1952 Bruce entered the United States Army, and served in Korea until 1954. He farmed in Holt County.

In his younger days Bruce helped his folks with their dairy operation, delivering milk all over town. He did lots of custom farming work, and loved raising cattle. He was a wonderful husband, dad and friend, and was loved by everyone.

Bruce went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at a Mound City care center at the age of 80.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cris Vandeventer, who passed away in 2005; brother, Ralph “Putter” Vandeventer; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Alma and Frank Blazer and Helen and Denzil Austin.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Iva, of their home; children, Carol (Bob) Brandon of Mound City, an elementary school teacher in Mound City for 30 years, and now working at the license bureau part time, and Thomas Lee (Patsy) Vandeventer of Mound City, who is the third generation of operators of Vandeventer farms; sisters, Dora "Beba" Routh and Verna "Bae" Rayhill of Mound City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Duane and Jennie Luna of Mound City; sister-in-law, Lillian Vandeventer of Mound City; and nieces and nephews.

Bruce was a member of the Nazarene church. He was the Sunday school superintendent for 19 years, and taught a Sunday school class for several years. He later transferred to the River of Hope Fellowship.

Bruce enjoyed spending time with family, especially his three great grandchildren, Daniell, Quinton, and Graclyn Brandon.

Services were held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City.  Interment was held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City. Memorials may be directed to the River of Hope Fellowship, the Holt County Cancer Fund, or charity of donor's choice.
