C. Melvin Hayzlett was born on Feb. 10, 1927 in Graham, Mo., one of eight children of Carl W. and Mady (Bomar) Hayzlett.
Melvin served overseas during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the position of Holt County Sheriff after serving 19 years. Melvin also farmed and worked as a carpenter.
On June 10, 1951 he married P. Charlene Polaski in Oregon, Mo.
Melvin passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at the age of 88 at the home of his daughter.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl I., Claud, Carol, and Curtis; and sister, Alice Noble.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene, of their Forest City home; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Hope Hayzlett of Oregon; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Eldon Fansher of Forest City; sisters, Mary Plummer of Forest City and Mavis Mackey of St. Joseph, Mo.; brother-in-law, Harvey Noble of Louisburg, Kan.; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services: Sat., Sept. 26, 2015, 10:30 am, Oregon United Methodist Church. Family visitation: Friday, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Memorials: Oregon United Methodist Church Building Fund.
