Charles Harry Gillis was born on February 21, 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri. He graduated from Mound City High School, and then graduated from Northwest Missouri State College.
On May 29, 1959 he married Madeline Marie “Madge” Mongold at the First Christian Church in Mound City. She passed away in 2007. He married Florence Ferguson in 2013.
Charles served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1954 to 1957.
Charles passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 in Strongsville, Ohio at the age of 77.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Madeline; and brother-in-law, Dick Mongold.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; son and daughter-in-law, Charles
Stephen and Karen Gillis of Lebanon, Missouri; stepson, Michael and his wife Liz Ferguson of Hinkley, Ohio; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Hugh Wallace of Mound City, Roger Mongold of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Charlotte Mongold of Gower, Missouri; granddaughter, Katie Gillis of Barnard, Missouri; step grandchildren, Jack, Heleena, and TJ Antoszewski, and Christopher and Anthony “Tony” Ferguson; numerous great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Rick Mongold, Christine Mongold, Linda Christian, Pat Mongold, Laurie Brumfield, Steve Utley, Debbie Barton, Megan Wallace, and Kelli Wallace.
Charles was a member of the First Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club, Moila Temple, and the Paul P. Shutts American Legion Post #121. He loved aviation and traveling.
