Chester Byron “Chet” Caton was born on Sept. 20, 1918 in Mound City, Missouri. He graduated from Mound City High School.
Chester served in the U.S. Army during WW II, earning a Purple Heart medal.
After the war, Chester moved to Rock Port, Missouri and was partner in Caton Brothers Truck Line. On October 3, 1948 he married Donna L. Shaver in Rock Port, and they became parents of two daughters. He and Donna moved to Mound City in 1951 where he farmed for the next 60 years.
Chet passed away on Nov. 18, 2014 in Mound City at the age of 96.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Chester C. and Mabel M. (Nauman) Caton; wife, Donna; brother, Tom Caton; sister, Margaret McCann; and daughter, Linda L. Caton.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Bill Clay of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, William K. Clay of Mound City, Brad Clay of Olathe, Kansas, and Mindy Dion of Shawnee, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Zach and Jami Clay, and Emily and Lucas Oaks; and nieces and nephews, John, Stephen and Anita McCann, Doug MacFarland, and Janet Teague.
Chet was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Masonic Lodge, and the First United Presbyterian Church in Mound City.
Memorial services with military rites will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. A private family inurnment will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City. Memorials may be directed to the Mound City Nutrition Site. Online condolences may be left at www.chamberlainfuneral.com.
