David E Phelan

David E. Phelan, 77, passed away at his home on April 20, 2025. David was born in St. Joseph on March 11, 1948, one of six children of John Jesse Phelan, Sr. and Mary Frances (McNemee) Phelan.

David grew up and attended school in Forest City. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver based in St. Joseph, and later as a concrete plant manager in Atchison, Kansas.

David enjoyed deer hunting and watching Westerns on TV, with his favorite movie being "Smokey and the Bandit." He also enjoyed horseback riding. David was a Teamsters member.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; siblings, John Jesse, Jr., Dennis, Larry, Bonnie Cromer and Betty Jo Cromer.

David is survived by his wife Valle, of their home; daughter, Amy Gulliford; Valle's children John Ross and Christie Phillips; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services: 11:30 am, Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Missouri. Memorials may be directed to the Phelan family to assist with expenses.
