Clarence Dean Hall was born June 3, 1936, near Forbes, Missouri, and was the fourth of seven children born to Clarence and Hazel (Brock) Hall.
Dean, as he was known, graduated from Oregon High School in 1954, and attended Northwest Missouri State before returning to join the family farming operation.
Dean joined the US Army in 1958, attending engineering and heavy equipment mechanics schools. While in an Army hospital, Dean learned loom weaving, one of several crafts he enjoyed. He was also a craftsman in leather and wood, including building three grandfather clocks. In 1981, Dean joined the Air National Guard, and completed 20 years of military service in 1997.
On December 15, 1961, Dean married Twyla Ann Cain in Craig, Missouri, and they had two children. Dean was happiest in the outdoors, and loved farming, raising corn and soybeans, as well as other specialty crops at various times. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman, including commercial fishing for a time with his brother Wayne, and was almost always able to brag about his kill or catch. Dean was also able to fish in many locations around the globe on several trips, and loved spending time on the river, boating or relaxing on a sandbar with family and friends. Dean and Twyla especially enjoyed the home they built on the rock quarry property, with its views of nature, fishing ponds, and woods. Dean loved teaching his four grandchildren to fish in the ponds there.
He was a member of the Oregon United Methodist Church, the Oregon American Legion post, and served on the South Holt school board from 1975 to 1981, including a term as president. Dean always enjoyed visiting with friends around town, having morning coffee, or playing cards.
Dean passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at a St. Joseph, Missouri hospital.
