Delores J. Smith

Delores J. Smith, 92, passed away on September 22, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.

Delores was born November 7, 1930, in Mound City, MO. Her parents were the late Louie L. and Esther R. (Nauman) Field. Delores graduated from Mound City High School in 1948 and attended Gard Business School in St. Joseph.

On December 31, 1949, Delores married Sidney E. Smith. The high school sweethearts celebrated 70 years of marriage before Sidney’s passing on May 21, 2020. Their greatest gift from God was their son, Stanley E. Smith, born on September 5, 1957. He died on August 25, 2003.

After graduation, Delores was secretary to Lester A. Vonderschmidt, attorney and Speaker of the House of Representatives in Jefferson City. At a later date, she was also receptionist for Dr. Muriel Joy, DDS.

Delores was a charter member of the Omega Club, a member of the Christian Fellowship Church and a friend to many.

Delores had two brothers: Roland L. Field and wife, P.J. and Robert D. Field and wife, Barbara.

Survivors include her grandchildren: Misty (Mark) Allen and Jeremy Smith; and her great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Levi Watts, Hudson and Parker Allen, and Joshua, Austin and Shelby Smith.

Services will be held at the Christian Fellowship Church on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery following the service. Memorials can be directed to Christian Fellowship Church Children’s Ministry.
