Donald C. Gilmore was born on July 8, 1926 in Friend, Nebraska to Dell C. and Thelma (Wilkes) Gilmore.
Donald served in the US Navy during WW II from 1943 until 1947. He worked as a lineman and troubleshooter for Alltel Telephone Company, retiring to Big Lake from Nebraska in 1985.
On November 9, 1996 he married Glenna Gayle (Petty) Crenshaw at the Big Lake Baptist Church.
Donald passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at a Mound City healthcare facility at the age of 88.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dell Gilmore; sisters, Shirley and Frances Gilmore; and nephew, David Petty.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna, of their Big Lake home; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Juli Crenshaw of Big Lake, and Tim and Kate Crenshaw of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mark Fothergill of St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Betty Hoffman, Courtney and Levi Roscoe, Parker Joslin, and Zach Crenshaw; four great granddaughters, Baylee and Brylee Hoffman, and Halle and Audrina Roscoe; nephews, Randy Mohr and Jamie Barnes; and niece, Karen Longacre.
Funeral services with military rites: Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City. Family greeted friends one hour prior to services. Private family inurnment: New Liberty Cemetery, Mound City. Memorials: Big Lake Baptist Church, or the American Cancer Society.
