Dorothy Sommer, 93, of Oregon, Missouri, passed away on Oct. 3, 2022 at a Mound City, Missouri. care center.

Dorothy was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on January 24 , 1929, one of three children of Herman and Edna M. (Polley) Sommer.
Dorothy earned a Master’s degree in education. She taught for 31 years at the South Holt elementary school, where she helped establish the special education program.
Dorothy was a member of the former Oregon Presbyterian Church, where she served as church organist for many years. She was also a member of P.E.O., Adelpha Club, Eastern Star, and served as Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; an infant brother; and her sister, Rose Dreher.
Survivors include her niece, Alita (Richard) Meyer of Oregon; great niece, Denise (Jeff) Keithley of Verdon, Nebraska; great nephew, Kirby Meyer (Michelle Lawson) of Oregon; great-great niece, Alicia (Matt) Sells; and great-great nephews, Josh (Erin), Jason (Jenna) and Alex (Bethany) Keithley; and a host of former students.
Services: Saturday , October 8, 2022, 11:00 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 am. Interment: Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon. Memorials may be directed to the South Holt School for the Special Education or Music departments.
