Duane G. Showalter, 95, passed away at his Craig, Missouri home on Monday, Dec. 30, 2019.
He was born Nov. 28, 1924 to David and Ruth (Griffin) Showalter, and graduated from Craig High School in 1943. Duane served in the U.S. Army. He was co-owner of Hall & Showalter Construction, and then co-owner/operator of Showalter & Son Soil Contractors.
On Oct. 6, 1951 he married JoAnn Hopkins at the Craig Nazarene Church. She survived of the home. Duane is also survived by children, Stephen (Marcia) Showalter of Columbia, Mo., Dennis (Terresa) Showalter of Mound City, Mo., David (Teresa) Showalter of Mound City, Kelly Jo (Bob Brainerd) Brandon of St. Joseph, Mo., and Nancy (Richard) Tichenor of Chesterfield, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Brent David Showalter, Seth Brian Showalter, Adam Duane (Emily) Showalter, Jacob Paul Showalter, Jordan J. (Molly) Showalter, Joshua Clark (Rachel) Showalter, Jennifer Marie Showalter, Emily Ann (Jason) Smelser, William James “Billy” Brandon IV, Elizabeth Ann Morgan, and Amy Lynn Behle; seven great grandchildren, Hayden Joel Showalter, Avery Rose and Kaitlyn Rae Showalter, Zane Scott and Reid Clark Smelser, and Joseph and Katherine Mary Saxon; and two nephews, Jimmie D. and Mike Thomson.
Proceeding Duane in death was a son, Jonathan “Clark” Showalter in 1973; grandson, Joel Harrison Showalter in 1990; son-in-law, William James “Billy” Brandon III; and sister and brother-in-law, Mavis and Jimmie Thomson.
Duane belonged to the River of Hope Fellowship Church. He was a wonderful gardener, and also taught Sunday School.
Family visitation: Fri., Jan. 3, 2020, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, River of Hope Fellowship Church, Forest City, Mo. Services: Sat., Jan. 4, 2020, 10:30 am, River of Hope Fellowship Church. Interment with military rites: Tharp Cemetery, Craig, Mo. Memorials: Ministerial Alliances in Holt and Atchison Counties in care of the Showalter family, for local needs. Care entrusted to Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City, and Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax and Craig, Mo.
