St. Joseph

Elizabeth Ann Carter, 79, formerly of Forest City, Missouri passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at a St. Joseph hospital.

Elizabeth graduated from Forest City High School in 1957, and then from Missouri Western State College with a degree in accounting.

She married Jay Carter on May 27, 1966 in Forest City, and in 1967 they moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. Elizabeth worked as a tax accountant, ending her career at Stevenson’s Tax Service.

She was a longtime member of Woodson Chapel Christian Church, St. Joseph and The Order of the Eastern Star, Oregon, Missouri chapter .

She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Lillian Elizabeth (Lark) Long.

Survivors include her husband, Jay; son, Eric (Patricia) Carter; and daughter, Heather Hughes, all of St. Joseph; three grandchildren, Krista Hughes, Hannah Cerventes and Alexander Hoefling; one great grandchild, Anastasia Cerventes; and nephews she helped raise, David R. Leighr DVM, Kearney, Missouri and Tevye Leighr, St. Joseph.

Services: Saturday, July 13, 2019, 6:00 pm, Woodson Chapel Christian Church, St. Joseph, Missouri. The family will greet friends beginning at 5:00 pm. Private family inurnment: Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon, Missouri. Memorials may be directed to the Forest City Museum, in care of Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Missouri.
