Emmett F. Kurtz

Emmett Franklin Kurtz was born on the family farm in Holt County, Missouri on December 4, 1914. He was the son of Ernest F. and Lula P. (Bender) Kurtz.

Emmett graduated from New Point High School in 1932. On February 21, 1940 he married Maxine L. Boswell in Savannah, Missouri, and they became parents of three sons. Emmett and Maxine farmed in Holt County all of their 72 years of marriage.

Emmett passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Oregon Care Center at the age of 97.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Herbert Kurtz, sister-in-law, Emma Lou Kurtz; brother-in-law, George Mohler; and daughter-in-law, Susan Kurtz.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of Oregon; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard F. “Dick” and Vicki Kurtz of Oregon, Michael D. “Mike” and Diane Kurtz of Clarinda, Iowa, and Scotty R. “Scott” and Jill Kurtz of Clarinda; brother, Ivan Kurtz of Oregon; sister, Verlene Mohler of Scott County, Kansas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kurtz of Oregon; six grandchildren and their spouses, Summer and Kevin Barber, Joy and Brad Hamann, Vincent and Laurie Kurtz, Tasha and Jon Cole, Isaac and April Kurtz, and Kelly F. Kurtz; three step grandchildren, Kimberly and Natalie Meng, and Adriene and her husband Alex Hofstetter; 15 great grandchildren, Emmett, Hadley, and Jace Barber, Jayla and Jac Hamann, McKenzie, Kylie and Katie Kurtz, Taylor, Madison and Ellie Cole, Quincey, Annie and Tommy Kurtz, and Darian Kurtz; two step great grandchildren, Leila and Kevin Hofstetter; and nieces and nephews.

Emmett enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially coon and coyote hunting. He also loved baseball.

Services were held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Oregon United Methodist Church. Burial was held at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church, or to Kendallwood Hospice.
