Eugene V. Shykes

Gene graduated from Manteno High School in Manteno, Illinois. He then entered the Kankakee Area Career Center’s welding program. In 2000 Gene moved to Craig, Missouri. He worked at Exide Technologies in Forest City, Missouri.

Gene passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the age of 54.

He was preceded in death by his father; his stepfather, Maurice Warren; stepbrother, Bill Warren; and nephew, Poke Nam Shikes.

Survivors include his mother, Ethel Warren, of Craig; his brothers, Gregory and his wife Choung Shykes of Aurora, Colorado, and Robert Shykes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two stepbrothers, Bobby Warren of Atlanta, Georgia, and Fred McCord of Florida; four stepsisters, Daurice Nehr of Pensicola, Florida, Brenda Fitzgerald of Charleston, Missouri, Mary Lou and Joyce; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bike riding.

Services were held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City, Missouri.
