Floyd "Jake" E. Steeby

Floyd E. “Jake” Steeby was born in Rosendale, Mo. on Oct. 20, 1934. He was one of eight children of Ammon Richard and Zelma Faye (Palmer) Steeby. Jake graduated from Savannah High School.
On Oct. 30, 1955 he married Mary E. Fansher in Savannah. They became the parents of four children.
Jake worked at both Swift’s and Armour’s packing houses in St. Joseph, and he operated heavy equipment in the construction of I-29 and for the Andrew County Road Department. He also worked for Herzog Construction and farmed.
In his retirement years he and his wife Mary enjoyed traveling, especially a cruise to Alaska. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and playing cards.
Floyd passed away on April 14, 2017 at a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Steeby; and sister, Bernita Hughes.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary, of their Amazonia home; their children, Karen (Cornelius) Rucker of Kansas City, Mo., Myron Steeby of Maysville, Mo.,  Mary Kay Swaney of St. Joseph, Mo., and Mark (Becky) Steeby of Amazonia; brother, Edward Steeby of Savannah; sisters, Zelpha Steeby, Mildred Johnston, Donna Shreve, and Faye Atkins, all of Savannah; brother-in-law and best friend, Franklin Hughes; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
