Frances L. Martin

Frances (Ohlensehlen) Martin, 98, of Mound City, passed away on May 2, 2013 at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home.

Mrs. Martin was born Dec. 23, 1914 in Corning, Missouri to Gus and Tena Ohlensehlen. She grew up in the Craig area and then moved to California during WW II. She lived in California until 1965 when she returned to Missouri.

Mrs. Martin worked for Maryville Packing Co. in Maryville, Missouri for 15 years, and retired in 1979. She enjoyed over 30 years of retirement, during which she devoted most of her time to her grandchildren. Mrs. Martin's greatest enjoyment in life was caring for her grandchildren and watching them grow up.

Preceding her in death were her parents; three brothers, Ivan, Vernon and Warren Ohlensehlen; and two sisters, Bernice Barrett and Lorene Edwards.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Chuck) Smoley of Sioux City, Iowa, and Deborah Young of St. Joseph, Missouri; two grandchildren, Nathan Carter of Austin, Texas and Sara (Richard) Maisel of Council Bluffs, Iowa; four great grandchildren, Daniel and Jacob Carter, and Samantha and Savannah Maisel; sister, Lillian Fredericks of Mound City; brother-in-law, Richard Barrett, Mound City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Tiffany Heights care center in Mound City for the kindness and excellent care given to Mrs. Martin for the past seven years.

Services were held on Monday, May 6, 2013, at 2:00 pm at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City.  Interment was held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Craig, Missouri.
