Gary Hulett, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019.
He was born June 19, 1940 to Lewis and Eva (Maness) Hulett. He married the love of his life, Norma Hawk, on May 31st, 1964. To this marriage three children were born: Sherry Hulett Stoll, Darlene Hulett Schwindt and William "Billy" Hulett.
Gary served his country for three years, including a tour in Germany, as a combat engineer. He specialized in demolition, construction operation, and trucking, which earned him numerous training certificates and medals of conduct before being honorably discharged.
Upon leaving the military, he continued trucking as an owner/operator with his own authority at Nemaha Valley Grain and Produce. He took great pride running his own rigs and logging over one million miles while visiting all of the lower 48 states. Gary had 50 grateful years driving his Kenworth.
Gary enjoyed working hard, helping other truckers find work and repairing his truck with his family. He often would take the kids when they were younger in the truck with him to see the great big world over summer vacation. No chocolate in the sleeper! He also loved cooking barbecue for family. Holiday meals and fishing were among his favorites.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents; son, William (Billy) Hulett; granddaughter, Allison Schwindt; and two brothers, Harold and David Hulett.
He is survived by his wife, Norma, of their Rock Port home; daughters, Darlene Schwindt and husband Warren of Auburn, Nebraska, and Sherry Stoll and husband Daryl of Maryville, Missouri; grandson, Garrett Schwindt and his wife Rachel; brother, Melvin Hulett; and many nieces and nephews.
