Genevieve J. Grable was born on June 5, 1922 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of two daughters of R.L. and Maude B. (Booth) Squires.
Genevieve graduated from Brookfield High School in Brookfield, Missouri. She then graduated from Iowa Western Community College with a nursing degree. She worked as a nurse at George C. Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa, Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri, Shenandoah Community Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa, the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, Arizona, and as a private care nurse.
On March 6, 1943 she married John Wyley “Jack” Grable in St. Joseph, Missouri. They became parents of two children. Jack passed away in 2010.
Genevieve passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Community Hospital in Fairfax at the age of 90.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John “Johnny” and Amy Grable of Yuma, Arizona, and their children, Tiffanni Connell, Tony Drake, Kelly Willis, John James Grable, Matthew Garay, and Janie Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Dennis Golden of Sidney, Iowa and their children, Brandy Perdew, Alyssa Haggerty and Cody Johnson; sister, Ann Risser of Aurora, Colorado; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Nauman of Mound City, Missouri; nieces and nephews, including Billy Nauman of Rock Port, Missouri, and Bonita Haer of Craig, Missouri; several great grandchildren; and roommate, Dora Routh of Mound City.
Genevieve enjoyed roller skating and ice skating, and playing dominoes. She liked to jitterbug to Glenn Miller’s “In The Mood.” Genevieve was a member of the Linden Church.
Graveside services and inurnment were held on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Linden Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Linden Cemetery.
