Gerald R. "Jerry" Kirwan was born on May 3, 1939 in Gregory, South Dakota to Gerald R. and Margaret V. (Turgeon) Kirwan.
On Jan. 29, 1966 he married Leona J. Sterk in Platte, South Dakota, and they became parents of two sons.
Jerry was a farmer and rancher, and had farms in several states. For the last 10 years Jerry and Leona lived in the Mound City area. Jerry had served as a first lieutenant in the National Guard.
Jerry passed away on Wed., Dec. 6, 2017 at the Tiffany Care Center in Mound City at the age of 78.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Janelle and Harry Hausmann, and sister, Janice Nockels.
Survivors include his wife, Leona, of their Mound City home; sons, Patrick J. (Kristina) Kirwan and Ryan K. Kirwan, both of St. Joseph, Mo.; sister, Mary (Tom) Westendorf of Watkins, Colo.; brother, Joseph (Twila) Kirwan of Gregory, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Jerry Nockels of Castle Rock, Colo.; two grandchildren, Tyler P. and Kate E. Kirwan; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services: Tues., Dec. 12, 2017, 6:30 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Family will greet friends following the services. A second service will be held on Thurs, Dec. 14, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill, Neb. Family will also greet friends following the services.
