James Lee Meade passed from this life on March 1, 2019 at the age of 87. Jim was born on January 13, 1932, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Ruby Marie (Welch) and Vern David Meade. He grew up in St. Joseph.
Jim married Anne Marie Gebhards on November 6, 1955, at First Lutheran Church in Rock Port, Missouri. They lived in Maryville and St. Joseph. Their married life began in Maryville, Missouri. They had two daughters, Diana Lynne Meade Scoggin and Judith Ann Meade Wall.
Jim worked for Armour Meat Company as a salesman for many years. Later, he purchased Moffet Nursery and Garden Center, followed by opening Eastowne Power Equipment in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he and Anne worked for most of their professional lives. They retired to Lebanon, Missouri.
As a young man, Jim was baptized at King Hill Baptist Church in St. Joseph. Later, he served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Maryville. Jim loved his family and would go out of his way to help any of his family or friends. He was skilled at home repair and wanted projects to be done the “right way.”
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, on February 25, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert Meade and Richard Meade, sister Barbara Jones, and son-in-law Bill Scoggin.
He is survived by daughters Diana Scoggin and Judith (Russell) Wall. Also surviving are granddaughters Abby (Blake) Long, Sarah Scoggin and Jennifer Scoggin, and two great-grandsons, numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Local arrangements have been placed under the care of Hedges-Scott Funeral Home, Camdenton, Missouri.
Family visitation: Friday, March 8, 2019, 10:30 am to 11:00 am, Rock Port United Methodist Church. Visitation will be followed by a joint family graveside service for Jim and Anne at Hunter Cemetery. Care entrusted to Chamberlain Funeral Home, Rock Port. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, Shriner’s Hospital, or Cure Alzheimer’s.
