Jean A. Masters

December 18, 1954 — February 12, 2017

Jean A. Masters, 62, of Belton, MO, passed away on February 12, 2017 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Jeanie was born in Fairfax, MO to Bob and Evelyn Doebbeling on Dec. 18, 1954. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Therapy from Northwest Missouri State University, she worked with disabled and disadvantaged children, first at Nova Center, then at the school at the Gillis Center in Kansas City.  She loved working with the students who had behavior issues at Gillis, and, using her humor and persistence, she connected with even the most difficult ones. Once, when she and another teacher were discussing her physical ailments, a student looked up from his school work and said, “Yes, but you have a good heart.”  Those who got to know Jeanie learned that she indeed had a good heart.
Jeanie loved decorating her house, and she had an affinity for clocks, especially unordinary ones. Although not everyone may have liked her eclectic style, she had a definite knack for turning a blank wall into a cohesive and interesting work of art.
She also loved her family, especially her grandchildren, Libby and Jackson. The most excited she ever got in her life was when they were born, and her time spent with them was precious to her.
Although her health continued to decline over several years, Jeanie never lost her humor, strong will, and persistence. Until the day she passed, she continued doing her physical therapy exercises, determined to walk again. She was a fighter.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her father, Bob Doebbeling. Survivors include her husband of 28 years Jack Masters, her mother Evelyn Kurtz and husband Jerry, her sister Debbie Masters and husband Merrill, her son Shanon Elliott and wife Holly, and her two grandchildren, Libby and Jackson Elliott.
