Lois Jean (Jeanne) Spreckelmeyer of Oregon, Missouri passed away at her home Monday June 5, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 10, 1932 in Bigelow, Missouri, Jeanne was the daughter of Lee O. & Edis (McNulty) Robinson. She grew up in Mound City, Missouri where she enjoyed “working” in the soda fountain at the family-owned Robinson’s Café. She graduated from Mound City High School, and then graduated from Platt-Gard Business College in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she worked until she married Lee Hunziger in 1952. They began their married life in Oregon, Missouri and were the parents of a daughter, Terri Beth (Tim) Bugg and sons Ray Lee (Debra) and Rex Alan Hunziger. After raising their children on the farm, Jeanne worked at the Holt County Courthouse as Deputy County Clerk from 1975 until her retirement in 1991. Lee preceded her in death in 1976.
In 1981 Jeanne married Bill Spreckelmeyer and they began their 32-year journey together. From this union, Jeanne was blessed with stepson Kent (Antha) Spreckelmeyer and stepdaughter Karol (Jack) Palmer. Jeanne and Bill loved traveling, spending time with their combined families, and were devoted fans of the KU Basketball Jayhawks. Bill passed in 2013.
Over the years, Jeanne delighted in babysitting and sewing for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, attending services and events at her beloved United Methodist Church, and friendships with her fellow members of the Holiday Club. Her most recent passion was volunteering at the Holt County Museum and Research Center. Jeanne relished the close relationships she felt with several cherished friends in her hometown community of Oregon and Mound City.
Jeanne was preceded in death by husbands, Lee and Bill; her parents; her adored stepmother, Opal Quakenbush Robinson; sister, Betty Robinson; brother, Jack Robinson; stepbrothers, Billy, Johnny, and Shorty Quakenbush; and her youngest son, Rex Hunziger.
Surviving are her children, Terri Hunziger (Tim) Bugg, Ray (Debra) Hunziger, Kent (Antha) Spreckelmeyer, and Karol Spreckelmeyer (Jack) Palmer; g randchildren, Erin Helsel Shields, Tyson (Staci) Helsel, Kyle (Jenna) Palmer, Sam (Jessica) Hunziger, Molly (Troy) Daniels, Jesse (Erica) Hunziger, Dillon (Misty) Hunziger, and Leah Spreckelmeyer; g reat grandchildren, Elexis Thom, Jackson and Brooklyn Bell, Blakely Shields, Braxton, Bryson and Harper Helsel, Dev and Ravi Palmer, Payton, Graisyn and Grady Hunziger, and Weston and Gage Hunziger; s isters-in-law: Lucille (BH) Pennel, Lovell (Lowell) Moser, and Shirley Quakenbush Scarbrough; and several loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Chamberlain Funeral Home on Friday, June 9, 2023. Visitation will be held at 10 am with the service to follow at 11 am. Interment: Maple Grove Cemetery, Oregon. Memorials may be directed to the Holt County Museum and Research Center or the United Methodist Church.
