John C. Patterson

John C. “J.C.” Patterson was born in Maitland, Missouri on June 22, 1931 to Frederick D. and Mary E. (Kneale) Patterson. He graduated from New Point High School, and then later attended Rockhurst College.

In 1949 he married Wanda Boswell, and they became parents of three children.    J. C. farmed, and was involved in insurance and real estate business. He was a Farm Bureau agent in Holt County and Nodaway County, and also a regional manager.

In 1994 he married Bonnie (Mertens) Bailey, and she survives of their Oregon home.

J.C. passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 81.

Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Rachelle Zech; sisters, Effie May Tracy and Bonnie Lea Scarbrough; and grandson, Bayley Banks.

In addition to his wife, Bonnie, survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Kim Patterson of St. Joseph, Missouri and Randy and Cindy Patterson of Maitland, Missouri; Bonnie’s children and their spouses, Billie and David Banks of Forbes, Missouri, Bert and Susan Bailey, and B. J. and Janet Bailey, all of Oregon; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Carol Patterson of Amherst, Virginia; brother-in-law, Arthur Scarbrough of Mound City; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Jason Patterson, Mia Ray Ripley, Thomas Brockman,  Bobbie Milne, Rachel (Derek) Doucet, Gabriel (Rachel) Bailey, Jed (Sarah) Bailey, Gracie (Shawn) Dozier, Sarah Allee, Jaime Bailey, and Bret (Kristy) Bailey; and eight great grandchildren, Taylor Patterson, Gus Ripley, Lillie Milne, Jackson, Sawyer and Pierce Bailey, and Lochlan and Addison Bailey.    J.C. was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Oregon, and Shriners. He was an avid duck and goose hunter.

Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at 10:30 am at  the Oregon United Methodist Church.    Interment was at Maitland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, or the charity of donor's choice.
