John L. Quimby was born March 19, 1924 in Craig, Missouri, the son of William F. “Frank” Sr. and Lida (Kilgore) Quimby.
John was a retired Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy and fought during WW II. He was also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, and served for over 20 years.
John was married to Viola Sicurella (deceased) and Virginia Fortune (deceased). After his retirement from the Navy he lived and worked in Maryland.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus for Mt. Calvary Church and the Father’s Club at Gonzaga High School.
John passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in Punta Gorda, Florida at the age of 91.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wives; and siblings, Benjamin, William, Jr., DeElden, Ralph, Willa Mae, Irene, Marjorie, Celia Mae and Lida.
John will be greatly missed by his daughter, Mary Monica (Philip) McClean; sons, Greg (Dale) Quimby, Pete (Debbie) Quimby, and Danny Quimby; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Larry Taylor Funeral Home in Punta Gorda.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:30 am, Friday, July 3, 2015 at River of Hope Church, Mound City, Missouri, with the funeral services to follow. Interment with military rites at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig.
