Karen J. Harvey

Karen Jo (Hopper) Harvey was born in Forest City, Missouri on June 22, 1940. Her parents were Joseph Lafayette and Lenorl Delora (Grimes) Hopper.

Karen attended school in Forest City. She married John Harvey Sr. and they later divorced. She worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections in both Cameron and St. Joseph for many years prior to her retirement.

Karen passed away on June 15, 2019 in a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 78.

Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Ramona Ridler; brother, Melvin Hopper; sister, Virginia Hopper; and stepmother, Maudie Shelton.

Survivors include her daughters, Diedra Kernes and Rita (Tadd) Sandstrom, both of St. Joseph; sons, John Harvey Jr. and wife Cathy, Forest City, Missouri, and Dennis Hopper; brothers and sisters, Joe Hopper, Gary (Gina) Hopper, Allen (Sharon) Hopper, David (Diane) Hopper, May Noble, Yvonne (Donnie) Catterson, and Maudie Irene Schubert, all of St. Joseph; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Bryson, Dalton, Andrew, Seth, Stephanie, Lisa, Dillon, Amy, David Jr., and Josh; and 10 great grandchildren, Zoey, Joel, Leeanna, Noelle, Kylan, Elana, Nick, Joey, Weston, and Alexia.

Karen enjoyed bingo with her family, playing Yahtzee, and watching old westerns.

Services: Thursday, June 20, 2019, 3:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Mo. Family will greet friends beginning at 1:30 pm. Interment: Forest City Cemetery. Memorials: To the family.
