Karen L. (Herbert) Hinkle was born at Fairfax, Missouri on July 19, 1954. She was one of four children of Paul Max “P.M.” and Frances (Huntsman) Herbert.
Karen graduated from South Holt High School. She married Robert Ripley and they became parents of two children, Brent and Kayla. Karen and Bob later divorced. Karen then married John Hinkle on December 18, 1983.
Karen worked for the Holt County Sheriff’s office, and then as a clerk for the Holt County Court.
Karen passed away on January 10, 2021 at the Oregon Care Center at the age of 66.
Preceding her in death was her father, P.M., in 2012; and nephew, Adam Slusher.
Survivors include her mother, Frances Herbert; husband, John, New Point, Missouri; son, Brent (Melissa) Ripley of DeSoto, Missouri; daughters, Kayla Ripley of Forest City, Missouri, Darcie Hinkle, and Kacie Wood; grandchildren, Raegan and Gracen Ripley, Danielle VanSickle, Lauren Meyers, and Carson, Elijah, and Alexandria Wood; great grandson, Beck Brown; siblings, Jim (Barbara) Herbert of Pittsburg, Kansas, Ramona (Chuck) McComb of Maryville, Missouri, and Reva (Bill) Slusher of New Point; nieces and nephews, Larisa Morris, Logan Herbert, Jason and Joshua McComb, Sarah Slusher, Tracey Kelley, and Darrick, Jarod, and Clifton Scroggins; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Karen enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. She was a member of the former Beta Sigma Phi.
Private family memorial services will be held at a later date, with inurnment at New Point Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Holt County Cancer Fund.
