Kathern F. Hurst was born on April 26, 1951 in Oregon, Missouri, one of six children of Beauford and Pauline (Fansher) Steeby.
Kathryn graduated from Oregon High School, and had worked at Johnson Controls in St. Joseph, Missouri.
On August 31, 1997 she married Mike Hurst in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kathryn passed away on March 1, 2012 at her Savannah home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Survivors include her husband, Mike, of Savannah; her sons and daughter-in-law, Shelby Frederick of New Point, Missouri, Ryan and Renee Hurst of St. Joseph, and Anthony Hurst of St. Joseph; daughters and son-in-law, Jennifer and Patrick Long of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Heather Hughes of New Point, and Chelsea Hurst of St. Joseph; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Connie Steeby of Oregon, Missouri; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Morrison of Cameron, Missouri, Bernadine Meyer of Oregon, Virginia and True Hicks of New Point, Missouri, and Louella and Jim Riley of Oregon; four grandchildren, Kennedy Frederick, Dakota Long, Riley Hughes, and Jaelynn Frederick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant sister, Loretta.
Kathern attended the Antioch Christian Church in Fillmore, Missouri. She enjoyed horses, sewing, camping, and helping people.
Services were held on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Oregon. Interment was held at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Kendallwood Hospice.
