Kelly Lee (Freeman) Holland was born on August 3 , 1933, to Willard and Mattie Freeman, in Wise, VA. She died June 16 , 2022, at the Tiffany Heights Nursing Home in Mound City after a brief illness.
She was the youngest of three daughters. The family moved to Weeksbury, KY, and Kelly graduated from the Weeksbury High School with the Class of 1951. She then attended Business College.
After those studies, Kelly moved to Washington, DC, where she accepted a position with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a fingerprint specialist. It was in Washington, DC, where she met David Lee Holland who was stationed with the United States Navy. They were married on December 4 , 1953.
Dave and Kelly were transferred to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where Kelly continued with her work at the FBI until the birth of their first child, David. Soon after David’s birth, Dave and Kelly relocated to Maryville, MO, where Dave pursued a degree in Music Education and Kelly worked as a homemaker. The family moved to Mound City in 1962. Dave and Kelly were the parents of four children: David, Stephen, Julie and Greg.
Kelly returned to work after the children were in school and she worked for the MO Division of Family Services until her retirement. Kelly was a member of the Omega Club and participated in various local organizations. Kelly enjoyed traveling to visit loved ones who lived all over the country and especially enjoyed attending high school class reunions. She enjoyed going to dances and concerts where Dave’s bands performed and formed many friendships over the years as a result. One of her greatest joys was being Grandma and Great Grandma to eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She loved taking the grandchildren to the wildlife refuge near Mound City and to play miniature golf in St. Joseph when they visited.
