Larry M Markt

St. Joseph

Larry Max Markt was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on January 3, 1945. He was one of five children of Darrell Max and Kathleen Erdean (Sommer) Markt. Larry graduated from Oregon High School in 1963 and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education from Northwest Missouri State University.

On March 4, 1967 he married the love of his life, Linda June Davis in St. Joseph, Missouri and they became the parents of three daughters. Larry and Linda were married for 58 years.  He was especially proud of Linda, his girls, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Larry began his career at Interstate 35 High School in Truro, Iowa where he taught for six years before moving to Cameron, Missouri in 1973. At Cameron High School, Larry taught industrial arts and coached many sports including varsity girl’s basketball prior to becoming the guidance counselor in 1982. One of his achievements was starting the girl’s basketball program at Cameron.  Coaching and counseling allowed him to guide many students. He worked tirelessly to find opportunities for each and every student. He had a remarkable work ethic and was a role model to young people. In his spare time, he enjoyed sports, farming, gardening, square dancing and woodworking.

Larry passed away in St. Joseph, Missouri on March 6, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Roger.

He is survived by his wife Linda, of St. Joseph; their daughters, Debbie (Dan) Rowe, Kristi (Chris) Hayek and Jaime Markt, 6 grandchildren, Scot Rowe, Sophie Rowe, Matthew Hayek, Benjamin Hayek, Amaya Markt, Jaelen Markt, two great grandchildren, Bryson Rowe and Brooklynn Rowe; siblings Richard (Merrliee) Markt, Loren (Carla) Markt and Norma (Leroy) Scott; aunt, Billie Sommer; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services: Sunday, March 9, 2025, 2:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon, Missouri. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Interment: Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Cameron Education Foundation.
