Lawrence Miller, 95, of Oregon, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the Oregon Healthcare center.
Lawrence was born on January 10, 1928, the youngest of four sons of Iven and Ida (Burrier) Miller. After graduating from high school in 1945 he farmed and worked on construction, building road projects.
In 1950 the Korean War started. Lawrence joined the Air National Guard in January 1951 at Rosecrans Field in St. Joseph, Missouri. He completed Air Training Command school at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado and also trained at Langley Field, Virginia.
In 1951 he was shipped out to France with the 180th Bombardment Squadron and stationed there until August 1952. Upon returning home Lawrence started farming and rejoined the Air National Guard. He joined the Guard full time in 1956, retiring in 1985 as a Master Sergeant.
During the last 22 years of Guard service he worked as a flight engineer. His unit made many trips to Europe, Japan, Central and South America, Alaska, and Vietnam during the war there, and many other places, which he said was "a very interesting experience."
Lawrence was a member of the Forest City Christian Church. After retiring he enjoyed farming and travelling.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Glenn Miller, brothers and their wives, Galen and Merle Miller and Lewis and Helen Miller; nephew, David Miller; and an infant nephew, Paul Miller.
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Pat Miller of Coos Bay, Oregon; and nieces and nephews and their spouses, Kenny and Debby Miller, Vivian Miller, Jeannie and Tom Williams, Janet and B.J. Bailey, Bernard and Mary Miller, Stanley and Patricia Miller, and Kim and Timothy Steckler.
Funeral services: Monday, July 17, 2023, 10:30 am, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Interment with full military honors: Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Maple Grove Cemetery Association.
