Leola M. Holmes

Leola Marie (Maness) Holmes was born on May 8, 1921 in Atchison County, Missouri. She attended Star School, and also school in California.

On June 9, 1939 she married Leland D. “Big” Holmes in Maryville, Missouri. They lived and farmed in the Watson area.

Leola passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at a Rock Port, Missouri care center at the age of 91.

Preceding her in death were her parents, William and Mirriah (Lane) Maness; her husband; son-in-law, Charles O’Barsky; a grandson, Leland J. O’Barsky; six sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Shirley O’Barsky, Kay (Tom) Gibson, and Chris (Holly) Holmes, all of Watson; sister, Lura Meyers of Dyersburg, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Tammy Oakes, Tommy (Tammy) Gibson, Anna Beth (Doug) McMahon, Chuck (Julie) O’Barsky, Jr. Patricia (Mike) Haun, Dennis (Barbara “Stormy”) O’Barsky, Susan Hope (Chris) Johnson, and Scott and Tiffany Holmes; 23 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leola enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and quilting.

Services were held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Baptist Church in Watson. Burial was held at High Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Watson Baptist Church.
