Lucille Elizabeth Kunkel was born on December 25, 1913 east of Oregon, Missouri, one of four children of Gotthilf and Elizabeth (Krug) Fink.
Lucille graduated from Oregon High School and Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. She taught in several rural schools in Holt County, and retired from South Holt after 29 years as an educator.
In 1936 she married Carl Merril Kunkel and they became parents of two daughters. Carl passed away in 2002.
Lucille passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at her daughter’s Mound City, Missouri home at the age of 103.
In addition to her husband, Carl, Lucille was preceded in death by her sister, Lorine Schaeffer; brothers, Lawrence and Clinton Fink; and sons-in-law, Dr. Dave Kay and Gary Messick.
Survivors include her daughters, Carla Kay of Houston, Texas and Nida Messick of Mound City; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
