Lucy M. Shores was born December 4, 1916 in Holt County, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Nellie (Lumly) Hughes.
On Oct. 1, 1932 she married James F. “Buster” Shores, and they became parents of seven children.
Lucy worked as a health aid at a Mound City, Missouri nursing home for a few years.
Lucy passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012 at the Oregon Care Center at the age of 95.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Buster; sons, Daniel and Richard Shores; brother, Raymond Hughes; sisters, Dorothy Murphy, Essie Kunkel, Alberta Lammers, and Hortense Hodgins; and grandchildren, Sara Jane and Russell Taylor.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Goben of St. Joseph, Evelyn and Todd Gottshall of North Carolina, and Karen and Roger Kerns of Russell Springs, Kentucky; sons, Ronald and his wife Connie Shores of Amarillo, Texas, and Roger Shores of St. Joseph, Missouri; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Phyllis Hughes, of Overland Park, Kansas; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Audrey and Lewis Raphun of Phoenix, Arizona, Velma and John Day of Kansas City, Missouri, and Cleta Homer of Gladstone, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Frances Shores of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Services were held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Oregon. Burial was at Fillmore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fillmore Cemetery.
