Lynn A. Sipes

Lennis Alonzo “Lynn” Sipes was born on October 10, 1924 in Forbes, Missouri. He was one of five children of Alonzo “Lonnie” and Lucy (Grimes) Sipes.

Lynn attended country schools near Forbes. He served in the Philippines with the U.S. Navy during WWII.

On March 23, 1942 he married Marie Green in Oregon, Missouri, and they became parents of five children. Lynn retired from MoDOT after 29 years of service.

Marie passed away in 2013. Lynn passed away at the Oregon Care Center on Sat., Jan. 30, 2016, at the age of 91.

He was also preceded in death by son, Kenny; daughter, Patricia Peterson; grandsons, Stephen McKenzie, and Scott and Eric Peterson; grandson-in-law, Ray Meyer; great grandchild, Austin Levi Meyer; brothers, Lyle and Lester Sipes; and sisters, Leona Hughes and Lavella Faye Stenning.

Survivors include their daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Larry Wright of Craig, Mo.; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Phyllis Sipes of Forest City, Mo., and James and Diane Sipes of Rosendale, Mo.;14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services with military honors: Thurs., Feb. 4, 2015, 2:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon with family visitation beginning at 12:30 pm. Interment: Highland Cemetery, Forbes, Mo. Memorials: Hospice Partners of America or Craig Church of the Nazarene.
