Mae L. "Maisie" Buckles, 93, of Bolivar, Missouri, formerly of Mound City, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at a Bolivar nursing home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1924 in Forest City, Missouri to Clyde M. and Esther M. (Elliott) Ball.
Maisie graduated as the Forest City High School valedictorian of 1942. After high school she worked as a “Rosie Riveter” on B-29’s in Santa Monica, California.
On August 1, 1945 she married Calvin C. Buckles. They o
wned and operated the Western Auto Store and the Standard Oil jobbership in Mound City.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Calvin, in 2003; six brothers, Gordon, J.R., Jerry, Jerry’s infant twin, Ray, and Verle Ball; and sister, Phyllis Gillespie.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, C. Allen “Buddy” and Hilda Buckles of Bolivar, Missouri, Stephen L. Buckles of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dr. Richard B. “Rick” and Caren Buckles of Foristell, Missouri; brothers, Robert (Ruby) Ball of Rogers, Arkansas and Darryl W. “Dick” Ball of Night Shade, Arkansas; sisters, Carolyn S. Jackson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Diane (Lloyd) Towell of Poyner, Missouri, and Shirley Fricke of Laguna Park, Texas; grandchildren, Christina Anne Lamb, Heidi Carinn Dunavant, and Kyle Morgan Buckles; seven great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Services: Wed., Jan. 3, 2018, 2:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. Family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Interment: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. Memorials: First Christian Church of Mound City or Mount Hope Cemetery Association.
