Marguerite Gillenwater

Marguerite Gillenwater was born on September 25, 1920 to James Wesley and Jessie Muriel (Potter) Paxton. She attended Holt County schools, and was a lifelong resident of Holt County.

On September 25, 1937 she married Raymond Gillenwater. He preceded her in death.

Marguerite passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2012 at an Oregon, Missouri care center at the age of 92.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dorothy Kunkel; brothers, Delmar, Lee, Allen, and Ed Paxton; sisters, Doris Lovelady, Wilma Ganote, and Muriel Clymer; and granddaughter, Wendy Gillenwater.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald (Leona) Gillenwater of St. Joseph, Mo., and Randy Gillenwater of Mound City; daughter, Sharon (Lewis) Hoffman of St. Joseph; brother, Jacob (Wanda) Paxton of Agency, Mo.; son-in-law, John Kunkel; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Mark (Christy) Kunkel, Brian (Kathy) Kunkel, Anthony (Paula) Kunkel, Ronald (Stacey) Gillenwater, Susan (Rob) Ross, Lori (Cody) Helfers, Ted (Kathy) Hoffman, Tony (Pam) Hoffman, Rick (Regina) Gillenwater, and Sandy (Tom) Lewandowski; 18 great grandchildren, Tiffany Kunkel, Paige and Montana Kunkel, Raven Handsaker, Kelsey and Kaden Gillenwater, Ashley and Aaron Ross, BreAnne Miller, Austin Helfers, Kaitlin and Jessica Hoffman, Raymond Hoffman, Shane and Shelby Gillenwater, and Corissa, Ayriah, and Blayne Collins; six great-great grandchildren, Memphis and Karrlie Moore, Amden Ross, and Cole, Cade and Elena Gillenwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marguerite enjoyed cooking, country music and square dancing, and playing cards at the Nutrition Site. She worked at Schoonover's Cafe.

Services were held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Chamberlain Funeral Home in Mound City. Interment was at Benton Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Benton Cemetery, Oregon Care Center Serenity Garden, or the Mound City Nutrition Site.
