Marie E. Hurtig

Marie Elaine Hurtig, 69, of Rock Port, Missouri passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1948 in Rockland, Maine to Lawrence E. and Elizabeth A. (Fisher) Blake. Marie graduated from Union High School in Union, Maine.
Marie moved to Missouri with her husband, Robert Hurtig, who lost his battle with cancer in 2010. Marie had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in January of this year.
Marie founded the Cat Ranch in 2010, a humane, no-kill shelter that supported hundreds of lost, abandoned and feral cats in the Rock Port area. She was very passionate about this work.
Marie was a member of the Heartland Riders Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob; and her in-laws, Arnold and Elsie Hurtig.
Survivors include her daughter, Dana (Wooster) Grubbs, of Thomaston, Maine; her grandsons, Logan and Kasey Grubbs; and her five siblings, Jim, Nancy, Eddie, John, and Ruth and their spouses. Additionally, Marie is survived by Barbara York, who was like a daughter to her; many friends in the Mid Coast area; many friends and Cat Ranch volunteers in the Atchison County area; her goats, Cowboy and Summer; and her many well-loved cats.
