Mary Virginia "Ginger" Book was born on June 7, 1930 in Forest City, Missouri. She was one of two children of Calvert Glen and Gertrude Mae (Lyons) France.
Ginger graduated from Forest City High School in 1948 and Maryville State Teachers College. On August 20, 1950 she married Dale N. Book. They became parents of four children. Ginger taught Holt County Headstart in Forest City for 27 years, after being "appointed" by Lyndon Johnson.
Ginger passed away at the Oregon Care Center on April 1, 2012, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, and son-in-law Jeffrey Ammon.
Ginger is survived by her children, David Book (Janet), Oregon, Missouri; Carolyn Ammon (Joe Hannah), Prairie Village, Kansas; Tom Book (Julie), Loveland, Colorado; Anna Derr (Brett), Forest City; brother and sister-in-law, John L. and Carole France, Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren, Caleb (Crystal) and Alex Book, Baylor and Noland Ammon, Madison and Guy Book; great grandson, Shawn Hoffman; sister-in-law, Mary June Book, St. Joseph; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ginger was constantly involved in the Forest City community and helped plan countless activities. She worked many hours planning the Sesquicentenial in 2007. She was baptized in the Forest City Baptist Church, and was a member of the Forest City Christian Church. She was the first honorary member of the Riverbend Extension Company. Ginger was a member of the Forest City Lions Club.
Services were held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 10:30 am at City Hall in Forest City. Interment was held at the Forest City Cemetery. to the Riverbend Extension Company/Drug Store Museum, P.O. Box 73, Forest City, Missouri 64451.
