Mary Lou Hughes

Mary Lou Hughes was born on January 6, 1934 to Ray L. and Pearl C. (Cotton) McIntyre. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1952.

On December 21, 1952 she married Orbyn Hughes, Jr. in Forest City, and they became parents of three children.

Mary Lou passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at a St. Joseph hospital at the age of 78.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Orbyn, in 1999.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Steven R. and Lauri Ann Hughes of Forest City; Mary Ann and John Waggoner of Falls City, Nebraska, and Amy and Michael Thomas of Loves Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Heather and Trent Thomas, Toby Randall, Steven Hughes, Jr., Brenten and Alik Hughes, and Jason and Richard Waggoner; eight great grandchildren, Laura, Jaidin and Dillion Waggoner, Meghan and Matthew Hutcheson, and Hayden, Jacob and Andrew Hughes; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Roberta “Bobbie” Graham of St. Joseph.

Mary Lou enjoyed cross stiching, building dollhouses, cleaning, and reading. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Forest City Christian Church.  Interment was held at the Forest City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Forest City Christian Church or the Forest City Cemetery.
